The A.W.A.R.D. Show! 2010/11 Philadelphia

The Philadelphia edition of the A.W.A.R.D. (Artists With Audiences Responding to Dance) Show! was presented in at the Arts Bank May 18-21, 2011, in collaboration with the Joyce Theater. 12 local choreographers competed for a grand prize of $10,000, with $1,000 prizes awarded to two runners up. Each evening's audience participated in discussions of the choreographer's presentations, and voted for the most deserving choreographer. The final honors were awarded by a panel of expert judges in conjunction with the audience.

Participating choreographers included Tyger B, Eric Bean, Zane Booker, Eleanor Goudie-Averill, Sarah Konner, Bronwen MacArthur, Meredith Rainey, Gabrielle Revlock, Rain Ross, Brian Sanders, Yu Wei and Raphael Xavier. Meredith Rainey emerged as the winner, while Gabrielle Revlock and Tyger B were honored as runners-up.

Danza Contemporeánea de Cuba

Dance Affiliates and the Kimmel Center partnered to present Danza Contemporánea de Cuba at the Merriam Theater, May 24-25, 2011, as part of the historic US debut tour of this legendary Cuban company. In addition to its performances, the company participated in local outreach in the Philadelphia community through master classes at University of the Arts and Nueva Esperanza Academy, outreach at Julia de Burgos Middle School, and a free student matinee. The engagement was made possible through a generous grant from the William Penn Foundation.
